Description
The estate is located in the southern part of the Chianti Classico “Gallo Nero” production zone, situated between the foothills of the Chianti Mountains and the beginning of the Crete Senesi landscape, at an altitude of approximately 270 meters above sea level.
The estate boasts a long-standing tradition of producing high-quality wines, Vin Santo, and olive oil.
It has received various accolades for the quality of its wines, which are bottled and sold directly from the estate’s cellars to retailers and end consumers.
The winery was originally built in the mid-19th century but has been modernized to meet contemporary operational needs; it has a total capacity of 1,400 hectoliters.
Above the cellar, there are dedicated areas for aging Vin Santo in barriques and spaces for wine tastings.
The estate is certified organic and covers a total area of approximately 30 hectares, comprising:
• 5.4767 ha Chianti Classico “Gallo Nero” D.O.C.G. vineyard
• 1.2245 ha Chianti IGT vineyard
• 1.5000 ha newly planted Chianti IGT vineyard
• 2.5000 ha olive grove
• 19.0000 ha arable land
The vineyards all enjoy a privileged location and exposure. The microclimate is characterized by significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, and often by moderately high temperatures even during the harvest season.
The estate has its own tapped source of potable water with a flow rate sufficient to supply a cistern near the winery and to provide drip irrigation for newly planted vineyards and olive groves. In addition to agricultural buildings (warehouses, equipment sheds, and canopies), the property includes a 180-square-meter rural apartment (6 rooms, 4 bathrooms) and two urban apartments totaling 110 square meters (4 rooms, 2 bathrooms). These apartments can be connected to form a single, large residential unit.
The estate is connected to the natural gas grid, allowing for its use in both the winery and the residential apartments.
The estate currently has a total of 8.2 hectares of vineyards. With a focus on quality—employing appropriate, non-intensive pruning and cultivation methods—the vines are in good condition and yield an average of 80 quintals of grapes per hectare; of this, 75 quintals/ha qualify for DOCG* status, with the remainder designated as IGT (the wine yield is 70%). Wine production amounts to approximately 60,000 bottles per year.
*The Chianti Classico Gallo Nero DOCG regulations recognize a maximum yield of 75 quintals of grapes per hectare.
The estate also produces an excellent Vin Santo that is particularly well-suited for aging; it holds an inventory of 8.00 quintals of Chianti Classico DOC Vin Santo. The olive groves yield approximately 3,000–4,000 kg of olives per hectare, with an oil extraction rate of 15–20% in standard years. As with the wine production, the approach involves appropriate, non-intensive pruning and cultivation practices to ensure a high-quality product. The olive groves cover 2.5 hectares, yielding an average of 1,800 kg of oil per year.
The arable land (located on hilly terrain) produces approximately 3,000 kg per hectare; the estate has long cultivated high-quality heritage grain varieties. Currently, the arable land spans 19 hectares, producing 55,000–60,000 kg of heritage grains annually.
The arable land offers a large area suitable for cultivation, allowing for the expansion of vineyards—situated in prime locations—by approximately another 12 hectares, with the potential for even greater expansion, subject to the necessary agronomic and soil analyses.
